This time last year, the ever-impressive Resident Evil 4 HD Project remade Salazar's Castle to great effect—and followed up with the action horror game's opening village level shortly after. After teasing their work-in-progress dynamic lighting adjustments on The Island last month, project lead Albert has now marked the final zone as complete, as are a glut of 'boring and time-consuming mini-tasks'.
In this blog post, the creator also promises something 'BIG' in due course.
Speaking to the time-sinks, all text and textures in the game's inventory menus, Merchant shop, map, file organiser and more have now been reworked in all six languages the game supports. Albert has also optimised hundreds of cut scene repeated textures.
Of the latter they say: 'As some of you know, there are certain textures repeated in most cutscene texture .pack files (like Leon’s face, all of Ashley’s textures, Ada and Ganado textures, etc.) I’ve included them inside the 07000000.pack file (a 'master' pack file which is loaded at the start of the game). So, the same texture that was repeated more than 100 times is now just one single texture. All the repeated textures have been replaced with dummy 4×4 dds files.

'A lot of cutscenes use stage textures, but they were copied again inside the corresponding cutscene texture .pack file instead of using the stage texture .pack file. I’ve redirected these texture calls to the stage .pack files and all the repeated textures inside the cutscene texture .pack files have been replaced with dummy 4×4 dds files, too. I have no idea how big the cutscene texture packs would be if these 2 last points hadn’t been possible. I’d say the final version won’t reach 1 GB (only the cutscenes textures I mean), which makes me think that an non-optimized HD version would easily reach more than 5 GB in size.'

Resident Evil 4 Best Graphics Mod

I'm currently working my way through the Resident Evil series again, for the nostalgia, starting with REmake HD and have just completed Resident Evil 2 & 3. I have purchased Resident Evil 4 UHD on the PC, previously having only played the Gamecube version.
My question is, are there graphics mods to download for this? I know there were mods around for the original PC release, but am unsure if they are worth downloading now, or if they even work with the UHD version.
I'm not interested in any costume mods, just textures/lighting etc.

Resident Evil 4 game is much better than it looks and feels at the beginning. Console port looks ugly (GameCube version is the best) and controls are horror for PC gamers. Fans of previous games don't like it, as i know, because it's differ too much, like Silent Hill Homecoming vs previous, but for me Resident Evil is still good japanese game, i like it.
Modification developed to make PC version less ugly. More important changes for improving graphics can be done, but game is too old and not popular now.

Resident Evil has been getting a lot of HD love lately, with the Resident Evil HD Remaster, the announcement of Resident Evil Zero's upcoming HD remaster, and recent talk of Resident Evil 2 possibly getting a remake as well. Now, two modders are working on their own graphical improvements for the PC version of Resident Evil 4.

The mod is being made specifically for Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition, which launched on PC in 2014. An HD mod for an HD remaster may seem odd, but the modding duo Cris and Albert have their reasons.
'With the release of the Ultimate HD version, we have confirmation that while some textures have been upgraded, the majority haven’t,' states the Resident Evil 4 HD Project's website. 'It seems safe to say that an official 100% across-the-board HD revamp of the game isn’t coming anytime soon, so now is the time to do this.'
Cris and Albert aim to improve all the textures in Resident Evil 4, including those in Mercenaries and Ada's side-story minigame Separate Ways. Their process involves scaling up textures 8-16 times their original resolution and then redrawing them.
So far, the mod includes HD-enhanced environmental textures for the whole village section of the game, which you can download from the mod's official website.
