Wow.. the latest edition of The Gathering Storm series revealed to be the most anticipating return of primach Roboute Guilliman. How could I missed this shocking revelation..
Anyone manage to get their hand on the new book 'The Gathering Storm: Rise of the Primarch'?
What's your thought on the new rules and lore?
What's your thought on the new rules and lore?
Apparently, the Phoenix Lord Jain Zar (one of the Eldar elite in Dow 3) will get her own stories in the upcoming titles.

- As far as I know Gathering Storm is finished, there are 3 tomes and that's it. Rise of the Primarch is the last one.
- Are they going to release novels soon? I really want to read about what Gulliman does to the Imperium. I wonder if he would allow chapters to go above 1,000 space marines? Rebuild the Legions of old!
- Are there any books about the gathering storm series or are they only rule books ? Thanks !

Thanks !The Gathering Storm: Rise of the Primarch contains both the stories and rules I think..The miniatures come with Collector Edition. Check the Games Workshop for more info. - Ok thanks Crimsonnikki, gonna check that out, still reading Horus Heresy !
- edited April 2017It's exciting! The story is actually advancing for the first time in 20 years.20 Years. Finally someone gave Abaddon his arms back.

Not that it couldn't be cool. - @Hippoblue64 said:@kric1991 said:

GW have a talent for mucking up the story.Yes indeed..they have just announced that a new edition of Warhammer 40k is on the way 4 days ago. A new era for Warhammer Universe after so many years - @Crimsonnikki question is will the new era be worse or better than the current one hahahaha. I'm so worried about Sigmaring..
- edited April 2017I got really worried when I read this in the FAQ:We realise that people like to play Warhammer 40,000 in different ways. 3 broad systems are covered in the new edition: 1) Open play is the most flexible, and easiest to get started with, allowing you to use any miniatures you like...Firstly, you could use any minis you like presently. There's no physical barrier to mixing units and armies with your buds at home/store/wherever. Nobody is gonna run in, out of breath and sweating, only to throw your table over screeching GW's intellectual rights in a piercing falsetto. So the question is what have they done that they felt warranted pointing this out? They also put a stress on the exact same idea with the release of Age of Sigmar.. so, you know, maybe a horrible connection there.Secondly, and this is purely personal, I think that separating the armies in the rules and making barriers to mixing adds something to the game and the setting. I couldn't say why, but it bugs me.
- They probably want new people to enter and make it easier to learn and quicker to play. Nevertheless, all previous codexes will be obsolete when the new rules coming out..RIP old codexes
- @CrimsonNikki this also happened between second and third edition if I'm not mistaken.
- At the very least, they did say that 8th edition is gonna be a free download for the basic rules, so that's $90 I don't have to spend!
- @Silk said:
@CrimsonNikki this also happened between second and third edition if I'm not mistaken.Yeah, 2nd -> 3rd was a huge jump. 3rd -> 4th was a bit of a mix up and 4th through 7th have been more or less compatible.Of course I think the game peaked in 3rd edition so grabbing those codexes for $2 has been pretty dope. - I'm pretty sure they learned from the Age of Sigmar release fiasco, because they pretty explicitly say in the FAQ that open play is just one of three ways to play. The other two are narrative (recreating famous battles from the lore) and then the third is presumably the points system we know and love. Age of Sigmar released with just open play and they eventually had to release the General's Handbook with points values for everything because people requested it so much. I severely doubt they're going to repeat that mistake, since new GW seems far more open to community feedback (hence us getting FAQs at all).8th edition is heavily reminding me of Age of Sigmar tho from what we've seen. Feels like they're trying to streamline the 40k rules somewhat to be more like that, since I've heard Age of Sigmar got a lot better once they introduced points values so you could actually have even battles.

What's your thought on the new rules and lore?Apparently, the Phoenix Lord Jain Zar (one of the Eldar elite in Dow 3) will get her own stories in the upcoming titles.Who cares about Guilliman and his fancy pants? Please. There's bigger news we have to worry about.Like Ynnead, the Yncarne, and resident wildcard Yvraine who's half the reason hoe SM get their fancy pants boy back.Like, screw the Imperium ++heresy redacted++'s going down for us Eldar. You know, our final desperate hope and ++heresy redacted++. - I consider myself as a fan of Space Marine especially for the Ultramarine Chapter and excited to see Roboute back kicking in the new edition, so perhaps you should show some respect here. Yvraine perhaps see the coming tides of Chaos is unstoppable and can be stop by the power and leadership of Primach, the Eldar knew that they cannot save the universe alone..
- would be nice to add papasmurf to the game tho ,..
- i hope theyve thought out what theyre going to do properly, with guilliman coming backbeing honest, i follow 40k for the storylines more than the actual tabletop. theres so much going on there. i like what theyve been doing with the horus heresy series, even if it has been moving towards terra a little slowly as of late, there arent as many big revelations as there were in the first books, or maybe the impact of reading about primarchs and stuff has worn off a bit..either way, there are so many options availible to them now with guilliman being back, they can surely make it interesting and compelling. personally id like to see the imperium being 'rebuilt' for a change. it might be no harm to move the story on that way. they can save the next kick in the teeth the imperium will get for a 9th edition or something. itd be nice to have a bit of a change.

Life as a corsair, time among the dark elves, bold declaration of a new path, turning away from the Harlequin's belief for salvation and the old Eldar ways, and helping the Imperium to boot. Craziness. Also, don't forget that several primarchs are empowered Chaos lords so if anything Guilliman is slightly evening the odds.I hope you see the satire in everything I'm writing, by the way.To be honest though you're probably right. She knows that what laughably amounts to the 'good' races in the 40k universe will probably need to unite, but before the Imperium can save anything they will first have to save themselves. Guilliman is probably the last chance for the Imperium to reset itself on the path the Emperor intended. - the immortal emperor gets resurected!!! back from the dead and kicks back the chaos invasion !

As of now, there are six spinoff audio books that follow two of the main characters from the events of Fall of Cadia, Fracture of Biel-tan and Rise of the Primarch. A great many epic characters show their faces in this series. Jain Zar, Harlequins, Fulgrim, Mortarion shows his face and the epic conclusion to the series has Magnus fighting Roboute Guilliman on the moon. Yes, Earth's moon. The Gathering Storm 'books' are combined with the rule book, scenario and new unit details. You'll have the small book first, usually around 90-120 pages, and then it jumps right into the rules and units in great detail. The art in the books are phenomenal, I would suggest taking a look at some of it.I would suggest reading the stories yourself to capture the scale and all of the information that is thrown your way. You can follow the story through places like Lexicanum, WH40K Wikipedia. You can use 1d4chan.org for very 'specific' information that is filled with memes but it is still accurate too if you cannot locate or want further information about the series. The best book in the series is by far the Rise of the Primarch because of how bad ++heresy redacted++ he is and how the other Primarchs get involved. You can locate the PDF series on the internet if you are too poor to support or purchase the novels too but I wouldn't recommend that, always support WH40K!This is an example of the epic art. This is the Primarch Roboute Guilliman leading his forces to reclaim Ultramar.

Missionary On A Mission | I can see 3 characters in that pic, Cypher, Ghouliman and a GK. So that GK could be the rumour pic GW put out. So the SM Triumvirate will be these 3? Cypher confirmed to get a model, text clearly says: You can see more of Cyphers new 'model', looks to be the word model at least. Hmm, only reason I'd get this kit would be to get the Ghouls sword.

Or he's using them as an ends to a means. He's never really been a follower of Chaos..but he's not an Imperial either. And the point is his rules first appeared in the 2nd. ed. Chaos Codex. Then in the 3rd. ed Chaos codex. Then the dataslate where his faction is..wait for it..Chaos Space Marines.

Abaddon is likely to be killed during the last book, GW staffs are jokingly saying killed by the bolt pistol 8. dwarf release and gryph hound release should still be there, but the focus is to finish off gathering storm series and launch 8th edition Pistol belongs to Cypher GK Character from the SM Triumvirate

Preparing the Invasion of Terra | Tbf Cypher has never been stated as a follower of chaos and more of a lone agent type. And for a while now he's been able to be taken in any CSM or non Dark Angel Imperial Army as the same faction. Also I quite like that he's in MKIII armour. It both looks great and will be good for more plastic 30k character conversions. It's such a shame he'd be in the same boxset as that fugly Guilliman model.

Well to be fair, Cypher was never really chaos, was he? He was a Fallen, but I don't recall anything in his fluff saying that he was in league with the ruinous powers, just that he was a wanted man by the Dark Angels.

Xenohunter with First Contact | Somewhat disappointed with this one after, what I thought, were two incredible Triumvirate boxes!! New Cypher looks cool, but not fussed by Rowboat at all, and the Grey Knight is a bit too generic!! Seeing as this says it is wrapping up the Gathering Storm, are we to assume that there will be no fabled Chaos Triumvirate release now? :/

If it's any indicative, Guilliman will most likely be boxed with Cypher and Random-grey-knight for 65 euros. So it depends on your tastes regarding at least one of the other two. Still cheaper overall I'd say.

Kabalite Conscript | Maybe it's because I have no interest in the models or rules presented, but Im really curious about what the fluff reasoning will be for Guiliman's return. I know we've been building up this whole 'he's healing in stasis' deus ex for as long as the fluff has existed, but is it going to be as simple as like 'hey your primarch hot-pocket is done cookin', let em' out' or will there be something more to it? Smart approach would be something questionable to keep this going theme of creating inter-factional tensions.
